Isaiah 49:2
Yhwh called me before I was born;
while I was in my mother’s womb they named me.
The Bible has many examples of people who were renamed by God as they experienced life-changing callings. Their new names were a reflection of their deeper selves, who they were created and called to be. Our names often hold our family’s hopes and expectations of us. They can be beautiful gifts, but may not be who we experience ourselves to be.
As part of the transgender and gender-expansive community, sometimes we rename ourselves to reflect the wonder of our calling. What might you see the Divinity of God’s Image in the trans people of your community?
Who are you created to be? How might you remind yourself of that calling in your naming, in how you refer to and think of yourself?
