Unprecedented Times
What are some internal or external practices that help you stay grounded in love when emotions run high around politics?
Revelation 21:10
And in the spirit he carried me away to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God.
Great, another weird thing to add to the list of weird things Revelation’d unto us about the end of the world. I’ll slot this one in beside the bloody Lamb, bursting seals, and dragonbeast monsterthing. So sure, under the backdrop of that high fantasy context, watching a city fall out of the sky seems on-brand.
But when I’m ready to dismiss this book’s stories as uselessly oddball, I remind myself that the writer of Revelation meant to write weird stuff. They were writing about the end of times! Imagining how the unprecedented times of now look at their logical conclusion. And a world after Jesus got into it isn’t normal. Through him, everything gets turned upside down, and God’s promises come true in ways nobody expected.
So sure, God can fastball the heavenly city down here, why not.
