Mark 5 : 18-19
As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed by demons begged him that he might be with him. But Jesus refused and said to him, “Go home to your own people, and tell them how much the Lord has done for you and what mercy he has shown you.”
Some of the hardest work of life, in my opinion, is choosing to stay and invest in healing and change in our own communities. There are absolutely times to hold a boundary and leave or disengage when abuse and harm are happening.
However, when the situation is uncomfortable, sad, or just full of messy humanity, how do we stay in relationship with one another and choose the hard and divine work of change?
Like the person in this passage, I would much rather leave and follow the Savior character who changed my whole life. How do you choose when you stay and when you go?
Where might there be a situation in which you are challenged to remain in and work toward healing when your immediate response is to leave the discomfort? What would you look for to know when it was time to leave?
