righteous anger
When has your righteous anger been quashed by calls for a soft tone and patience? How has your silence given the evil license to continue?
James 5:1&4
Come now, you rich people, weep and wail for the miseries that are coming to you. Listen! The wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts.
James screams doom at the rich just a few paragraphs after exhorting his readers to hold our tongues and keep judgment to ourselves.
I guess even he makes exceptions for the billionaires responsible for everyone’s suffering. Why? Perhaps because God’s wrath collects there too, as evidenced by literally all of Scripture.
So I don’t want to hear one more word from the tone police about how my anger is “setting the movement back” and that I should perpetually exude patience and politeness for the sake of “unity” and incremental steps toward some ever disappearing center.
It hasn’t worked since James, and it won’t work now.
When has your righteous anger been quashed by calls for a soft tone and patience? How has your silence given the evil license to continue?
Since when has anger solved problems? Did Jesus say hate the billionaires? Do we have the courage to resist and call out abusers, yet still turn the other cheek and not engage in violence? Only love, forgiveness, humility , and equality can durably solve our problems. Are you willing to humbly share power equally with everyone else?
