Pastors to Pastors
What can you do to ensure that your own body and soul are nurtured as you care for others in the work you are called to do
Luke 8:1-3
The twelve were with him, as well as some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, and Susanna, and many others, who ministered to them out of their own resources.
In my corner of Christianity, most of us know that women were disciples of Jesus and were the first preachers of the resurrection of Jesus. But I had never stopped to read this passage in depth.
I am just realizing that women were not only disciples and preachers but ministers to Jesus and the Twelve (disciples). In a sense, they were pastors to pastors. And as a pastor myself, I am very thankful for those humans who tend to my wounds, create space for grief and sorrow, provide opportunities for rest and renewal, and nurture my body and soul with food and words. And I marvel knowing that Jesus had his own pastors doing that for him. And that those pastors were women.
