Matthew 5:45
So that you may be children of your Father in heaven, for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous.
Who are the evil? Who are the unrighteous?
I have been watching my youngest start high school over the past few weeks and just astounded by how preposterous it is to learn to be human. My kiddo sometimes acts like a little turd; I’ve seen it. I know. Starting school and socializing with other has been rough. But I hold the thread of their sweet core that few other people know. I know that though they are in a drought stage, they are dear. They are good.
I forget that we’re all just bumbling humans.
I wonder if that is why this passage refers to us being children of our Father in heaven, because above all of our own perspectives on who is “evil” and who is “righteous,” God holds a deeper thread to our sweet created selves and knows we all deserve the good things.
Is there a person in your life for whom you hold the knowledge of their true created self? Are their ways you’ve lost the thread to your created self?
Nice [true] image, Theo. Thank you.
