Speaking Spanish was once illegal in the state of Colorado. This is why my cousins, siblings, and I can only speak our mother tongue in small fragments.
My family taught me that English is the language we use to survive, but Spanish? Spanish is the language of love, prayer, and worship.
Language holds so much power - it can unify us with stories and traditions. Language can also divide us.
I long for redemption - not just the big Redemption but the small redemption. For the healing and bridging of the world, yes, but also of my own family.
