Once you were “not a people,” but now you are the people of God; once there was “no mercy for you,” but now you have found mercy.
We are in the heat of election season, and in the state I live in is one where Christian Nationalism seems to be in the water.
As we come closer to November, I often wonder how people of faith might reclaim the ways of Jesus to be peacemakers and to cultivate relationships across the divide. Regardless of who wins, we will still be a people who are called to live with one another, to love one another, regardless of political affiliation.
This passage offers both comfort and conviction–we are God’s people who have received mercy–will we treat others, especially those we don’t agree with, accordingly?
