Jeremiah 17:7-8
Blessed are those who trust in YHWH, whose trust is in YHWH. They shall be like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots by the stream. It shall not fear when heat comes, and its leaves shall stay green; in the year of drought it is not anxious, and it does not cease to bear fruit.
Jeremiah paints a striking image: a tree planted by a flowing stream, its roots reaching deep for sustenance. This tree thrives, its leaves staying green and fruitful even in drought. Why? Because it draws from a reliable source of life. The analogy is clear: when we trust in the Creator, we tap into divine wisdom, justice, and love as our sustaining streams.
This trust isn’t passive; it’s a choice to root ourselves in what gives life rather than what withers it. Power systems we’ve been taught to rely on—wealth, dominance, exploitation—may seem to offer security, but they leave us barren in the droughts of life. True liberation comes from the Creator’s heart, where justice and love flow freely. Rooting ourselves there means choosing life over illusion, justice over harm, and becoming part of the Creator’s work to bear fruit even in a weary world.
