Mark 4:24-25, The Inclusive Bible
He continued, “Listen carefully to what you hear. The amount you measure out is the amount you will receive—and more besides. To those who have, more will be given; from those who have not, what little they have will be taken away.”
Kin-dom math doesn’t math like human math or basic physics. It just hits different. What you give out, you get back and then some. If you already have some, you’ll get more. And if you don’t have any - you’ll be subtracted from altogether.
YIKES.
Mark says it plain - listen up, pay attention, wax those clogged ears. There are certainly “haves” and “have nots” in kin-dom math; but just what defines having and not having. Referring back to the lamp analogy just taught by Jesus, perhaps it is the resource right in front of you: God’s light; God’s wisdom, God’s revelation.
We’ve been given light to light up the space around us, not ignore. If you have light, pay attention and use it. You’ll get more when you have this resource and give it away. It will become more than the sum total of just it’s parts. Let it shine. Let it multiply.
What resource from God is readily available to you to share today?
Listen to a version of “this little light of mine” and allow yourself to really feel the depth of this resource - in your person, in your body, in your community. Decide now how you will let this light shine tomorrow.
