Isolation & Connection
Who in your community might be experiencing isolation due to circumstances beyond their control?
Luke 8:43; 47-48
Now there was a woman who had been suffering from a flow of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all she had on physicians, no one could cure her... she came trembling; and falling down before him, she declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.”
Imagine living over a decade outside the city walls. Unable to gather with others, share in a meal with your family, embrace your cherished ones, or feel the slightest human touch.
The isolation this woman must have felt from something so outside her control. The law labeling her "unclean" and worthy of abandon.
We've all experienced isolation in our lives—physically, mentally, or emotionally. Whether from family, at work, or on a larger scale.
Despite the situation the woman pursued a connection with Jesus; she knew one touch of his garment was worth defying the societal rules she was bound to.
The courage she had to seek healing and the faith it took to get there, remind us that liberation often begins with a brave act that defies systems designed to keep us isolated.
Who in your community might be experiencing isolation due to circumstances beyond their control? How might you connect with them or help them to find a point of connection on their own?
