Imagination
How does your imagination shape your faith?
Matthew 22:23–33
“You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God.”
In this passage, the Sadducees—who denied the resurrection—approach Jesus with a question meant to challenge his teaching. Rather than answering directly, Jesus exposes the limits of their understanding. Their mistake isn’t just theological; it’s imaginative. They assume that what they can conceive defines what God can do.
We fall into the same pattern. We treat our systems, experiences, and cultural assumptions as if they set the boundaries of God’s possibilities. But faith doesn’t work that way. Faith stretches beyond the expected. It calls us to a larger vision.
Jesus says that in the resurrection, we will be like angels. Can you imagine that? If not, it may be worth asking where your assumptions are setting limits—and whether those limits belong there at all.
How does your imagination shape your faith? What might it look like to trust in a reality beyond what you can currently imagine?
