hope moves us
Working toward God's kin-dom on earth, that's what hope does when it moves us to act. It's hard to hope in the face of headlines though. What hope does your or your neighbor's life need today?
Acts 5:15
They even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them.
The apostles were performing signs and wonders and this was stirring up a new feeling in the community.
A feeling rooted in hope. A hope for the sick to be healed, for the lame to walk, for the blind to see. Hope for a better life.
This hope, this belief in healing caused people to place their loved ones in the streets for the small chance their loved one would be healed. I wonder if those who did not believe found the cots annoying and complained about the noise?
What has hope caused you to do? Perhaps a move to a new city or a new relationship?
Hope moves people. It can cause some to courageously begin a new life in a foreign place or leave your family for a better future.
Acts stirs a tenderness towards the people moving in hope which can be a juxtaposition of how we see our migrant communities on our borders and in the streets.
Think of the apostles and how they would see modern-day migrant communities - would they turn away from their desperation and despair?
Time and time again the scripture shows us the Jesus and then the apostles met peoples bold hope with love and met their tangible needs for food and shelter.
Hope can make us bold and courageous, what's the bold move you need to take today?
