God’s Visitation
What if we saw Earth filled with divine blessing and abundance?
Psalm 65:9
You visit the earth and water it; you greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide the people with grain, for so you have prepared it.
For agrarian people in the ancient world, abundance and scarcity were real life matters that could mean stability or relocation, life or death–and they had profound belief in the blessing of the Creator that filled the Earth with abundance.
For those individually or culturally shaped by Western Christianity, we inherit a generally dismissive, if not destructive, vision of creation, as something beneath humanity, opposed to God, and subject to eternal nothingness.
But more consistent with the biblical vision, the Psalmist insists that not only is creation good and filled with divine blessing, but it is subject to divine visitation. God’s real presence within the Earth bestows God’s blessing and abundance.
What would change if we saw Earth as hosting God’s visitation, if we saw Earth filled with divine blessing and abundance?
