God or ego?
Where in your life has the Spirit invited you to liberate the oppressed? Identify what made you say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to those opportunities.
Isaiah 61: 1
The spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me;God has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners.
This passage is how I gauge whether God is involved and inviting me to do a thing vs. it just being my own ego.
If it succeeds, will it free the oppressed? Unchain the imprisoned? Put broken people back together? That’s what Isaiah says the Spirit of the Lord God is interested in doing, and She welcomes collaborators.
If I were to see a fellow Christian say, “God is on his side” and amplify others’ claims that he is “annointed”, I would use that same yardstick:
If such a one gets what he says God wants, who is freer than they were? The poor? Or the wealthy?
Who is pardoned from prison? The oppressed or the privileged?
Whose hearts are reassured when his God wins, and whose are broken?
When such a one shows contempt for Isaiah’s God, his words are not fulfillment of prophecy but ego-fueled empty lies.
