Psalm 56:8
You write down all my laments,
and store every tear in your wineskin—
have you counted each one?
Scripture reminds us of how intimately God loves us.
How the Divine knows us down to every last detail: the number of our tears; the hairs on our head; our thoughts and our ways.
Our cosmic God, larger than the whole universe itself, cares about each part of you and about each part of me.
Not just some of who we are. The fullness of who we are.
There are some humans who will fail to understand and love each facet, but this verse reminds me of the truth: While human judgment will fail to acknowledge and honor all of our identity, God won’t.
When others reject the parts of me they don’t understand, it’s now my habit to, in turn, find another human being and recognize, in the spirit of God, all of who they are. Whether in the quietness of my spirit or with my whole chest.
How can you, today, recognize someone for all of who they are?
