Luke 15:10
I tell you, there will be the same kind of joy before the angels of God over one repentant sinner.
Jesus tells two search-and-rescue stories because religious gatekeepers can’t fathom a table that seats tax collectors and sinners. A shepherd abandons ninety-nine to shoulder one trembling sheep; a woman overturns her whole house for a single coin. In God’s economy, what is lost sets the agenda. Every wanderer matters, including the fragments of yourself you’ve misplaced. How can you surrender to this stunning reversal of values today? Which part of you can you ask Jesus to help you find?
Who is surprisingly beloved? Pause in a public space—grocery aisle, bus stop, classroom hallway—and let your eyes land gently on someone who would never make a church brochure. Silently bless them: “Beloved, you are worth the search.” Training our gaze in divine delight is the first step toward joining the hunt.
