find a way to reset
Today, what do you need to remember so that you might take a breath and reset when your patience begins to fray?
John 5:25
Those who hear will live.
Jesus heals a man on Sabbath and winds up being questioned by religious leaders.
I can feel the exasperation in his phrase, “truly truly I say to you…” which he says three times. I imagine an elementary school teacher running their hands through their hair, exhaustion creeping in, saying, “lets try this one more time”.
That exaperation happens time and again. It's got to be tough on him. There's a lot of mystical mystery in Jesus' teaching that can feel confusing.
While not everything makes perfect sense, I do appreciate that Jesus is centering himself as the one with authority to judge in this passage. Instead of a jealous, angry God we are given the patient friendship of Jesus.
It's a good lesson in grace and goodness when our patience runs out.
