Expectations, Evidence, Exasperation.
Can you identify if you’ve become exasperated with God’s present revelation?
Luke 7:22-23, The Inclusive Bible
Then he gave the couriers this answer: “Go and report to John what you have seen and heard. Those who are blind recover their sight, those who are crippled walk, those with leprosy are cured, those who are deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and those who are poor have the Good News preached to them. Happy is the one who doesn’t lose faith in me.”
Expectations, Evidence, Exasperation.
These are the themes impacting John, his disciples and Jesus in this instance. John is genuinely bewildered by Jesus’ actions, and just wants to set the record straight. Like, is it you? Or do we need to keep being patient? Is the relief we’re feeling legit? To which Jesus lays out all the evidence of his miraculously healing presence as proof that he is indeed, the one they’ve been waiting for. And then he challenges John and the disciples not to take offense that this is the version of ‘messiah’ that is now present and active.
What expectations are you managing around God’s action in your world? What evidence do you have that God’s love is present, active & healing?
