cry out for help
What help seems too big to ask for today? Who can you share that hard truth with?
Psalm 50:15
Then summon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you and you shall glorify me.
Wilda Gafney, the author of the lectionary that Daily Ripple uses, says the word "summon" is imbued with a compulsory tone... we're commanded to call out for help.
I can't tell you how many times I've been thankful to be offered help. Just knowing someone has my back can be enough to get through a tough spot. But this isn't an offer, it's a mandate: call out for me.
Why does asking for help feel so risky?
Maybe the vulnerability it takes to receive help is what makes the stakes so high. We're admitting the hard truth that we aren't enough for the task at hand. But doing so also lets us lean into what, and who matters in our lives.
Moreover, conceding our limitations as humans also emphasizes the fact that most of our struggles are shared.
"This is too big for you? It would be too big for me, too."
What help seems too big to ask for today? Who can you share that hard truth with?
