Hebrews 1:9
"Oil of Joy"
This phrase stopped me in my reading.
I guess I have never reflected or paid much attention to the phrase – but the image of oil of joy felt like a balm to my soul this week. I am reminded of the story of the widow who was asked to make a feast with the last bit of oil and flour she had – and God provided enough oil for her, her son, and Elijah to be sustained until rains came again. And these days, the world around me feels arid and dry – and my spirit is in need of joy and sustaining. This passage reminds me, and us, that God is steadfast in love and provision, and has created us for JOY.
How do you seek or experience joy these days? What would joy feel like to you- oil, water, a comfy couch, a soft blanket, cuddles with an animal or loved one? Take a moment to reflect on how joy feels to you in these days.
