Cooperating with the Light
What resource do you have, gifted straight from God, that is helping to reveal God’s love?
Mark 4:21-23, The Inclusive Bible
He also said to the crowd, “Would you bring in a lamp and put it under a bushel basket or hide it under the bed? Surely you’d put in on a lampstand! Things are hidden only to be revealed at a later time. They are made secret only to be brought out into the open. If you have ears to hear, then listen!”
Jesus is teaching in parables, analogies and metaphors to make more accessible the reality of God’s embodied presence. Sometimes its the most basic truths of reality, how things truly are, that we miss about relating healthily to God and God’s work in the world.
If you have light, don’t hide it. If you have a resource, don’t turn it off. Use it - and use it for what it’s meant to do. Lights reveal things, show things, disclose things. Cooperating with the light of God’s presence in the world means you’ll be able to see things, understand things and things will be disclosed to you.
So, use the light you have to reveal what is not yet disclosed to you. God’s presence is light - don’t deny it its shining powers because you chose to hide it again.
Look around your environment right now. What resource do you have, gifted straight from God, that is helping to reveal God’s love? Are you underusing it? Overusing it? Not using it at all?
