claim your curiosity
Pick a moment today and choose to be curious. If you already have an idea of the answer, assume you know nothing. Look for that moment today, and act on it. Choose to be surprised.
Romans 12:16
Live in harmony with one another; do not be arrogant, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are.
As much as I want to write about harmony, it’s the last phrase that catches my breath here.
How many times have I had the answers? How many times have I shared the “shoulds” rather than heard from others?
I really appreciate the feminist theological idea that humility has more to do with an accurate appraisal of what we’re good at and where we have room to grow. To be humble is to claim and live our gifts, knowing we have areas that need attention and gaps of knowledge and experience.
When we’re humble, we’re curious. We’re curious because we know about our gaps in knowledge, and we wonder how someone else might contribute to our (and others) growth.
Pick a moment today and choose to be curious. If you already have an idea of the answer, assume you know nothing. Look for that moment today, and act on it. Choose to be surprised.
