building upon legacy
1 Timothy 6:7
For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.
As I look to my aging parents, death scares me. This verse scares me.
I understand the sentiment Paul is trying to convey – greed corrupts, so be mindful of what you pursue and put your value in.
Nevertheless, I find comfort that we also get to leave some truly valuable (though intangible) things behind – our legacy, much like Jesus’ legacy. As people of God, Paul reminds us to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness.
This is what Jesus gave us and what we get to build upon.
What does leaving a legacy mean to you? How has your answer to this question evolved over time?
