beauty and the feet
What messages does the way you move send to the world? How might you share beauty with those around you through your presence?
Isaiah 52:7
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
In Atlanta, you can visit the Harriet Tubman Foot Clinic every Thursday.
Volunteers meet in a church basement to clean the feet of their neighbors living in homelessness. They apply salves, treat wounds, trim nails, and give massages to tired feet.
Isaiah speaks of the beauty of a messenger’s feet. I’m not so sure that beauty is the word I would use.
A messenger’s feet were probably like the feet that are cleaned at this clinic. Dusty and dirty, with dried, cracked skin, covered in bunions, even bleeding from the wounds of walking over those mountain passes.
Yet, the prophet calls them beautiful because those feet carry God’s message far and wide.
They bring hope that walking through tomorrow might be a little easier when neighbors come together by the grace of God. I pray that your feet might carry that same message to those who yearn to hear it.
