be good, not nice
Who are the siblings you'd rather leave off the Christmas card list? How might you be good instead of ignoring people in an effort to be nice?
Romans 10:11-13
The scripture says, “No one who believes in him will be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
I must confess I am incredibly judgy. I make tons of assumptions based on the type of car someone drives, their license plates, and their bumper stickers.
And, I must confess that my least favorite type of people are the White Christian nationalists. I just can’t. I am the first one to send them to hell and I pray God doesn’t hear their prayers.
But this passage challenges me in a direction I don’t like: God doesn’t make distinctions based on our (self) righteousness or our political and economic tendencies.
God is the Ruler of All and generous to all who call on their name. That is a good reminder as a season of political campaigns approaches and we lean towards forgetting who our siblings are.
This is where it's important to distinguish between being good and nice. Good calls bad behavior to the carpet, nice let's it slide.
