Psalm 106:3
Blessed are those who defend justice and do what is right at all times.
Fifteen years ago my spouse and I witnessed an incident that brought this scripture to life for me:
We were waiting in line for a taxi behind an elderly couple when a young person rushed past us and jumped into the next available cab.
At that moment, I felt a surge of anger because this older couple had been mistreated. My spouse reacted quickly, running after the taxi with his hands in the air. I wish I had intervened more directly to defend the rights of those in front of us.
This moment has stayed with me, reminding me that injustice can happen anytime, anywhere. It can happen quickly, and we may need help to respond rapidly. But even if we can’t, these moments are powerful reminders and motivators for future action.
Doing what is right "at all times" involves being aware of what’s happening around us, having the courage to take action, and being willing to learn from any encounter with injustice.
How can you actively defend justice in your community today? What does it mean for you to do what is right “at all times" in your life?
