asking real questions
How can we challenge the systems that perpetuate poverty and hunger in our own communities?
Mark 8:16
They discussed this with one another and said, “It is because we have no bread."
I’ve always heard this passage discussed from a negative vantage point that dismisses the disciples' very real concerns – but oh, how I relate to their words in this Scripture.
How can I focus on their very real questions, reflecting on them as a “lack of faith” in Jesus’ ability to provide, when it was the structures of their time (and sadly, still ours) that kept people impoverished and hungry?
Many of us face similar worries in today’s world, so it doesn’t feel right to vilify the disciples here. Instead, how can I focus on justice? What steps can I take to ensure a more equitable future?
Specifically, how can we challenge the systems that perpetuate poverty and hunger in our own communities?
