arms wide open
Sometimes the world can overwhelm us with it's callousness. What's one way you can imagine breaking open the shell of apathy we all build to welcome a stranger into your world?
Psalm 30:9
“What profit is there in my death, if I go down to the Pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness?"
This psalm was written by someone who had been to hell and back.
Someone who had been bullied, oppressed, beaten down, and felt they were in a pit but were also rescued by God.
But not everyone is that lucky. Not everyone gets to experience salvation or survives the violence of oppression.
As I was reading this psalm, I was struck by verse 9, where the author asks God, seeking salvation: “What profit is there in my death, if I go down to the Pit?”And I thought about the thousands of people currently displaced in Gaza.
Because there is profit in death and displacement. The war industry is making the stock market soar, so the profit in the deaths of Palestinians is evident.
And I can’t help but wonder, who is out there to rescue the people supplicating for salvation? When will humanity weigh more than profit?
Sometimes the world can overwhelm us with it's callousness. What's one way you can imagine breaking open the shell of apathy we all build to welcome a stranger into your world?
