All of it is Holy
How might you be invited to hold both light and shadow as part of your spiritual journey?
Psalm 144:4(b)
Their days are like a passing shadow
I sat on the beach not long ago and found myself grateful when a cloud came by and provided me some relief in the shade of its shadow.
As I read this Psalm, I wonder if that same image might offer comfort to those who have lost someone, or who are grieving a loss that is imminent. Passing shadows are fleeting and can often be missed if we blink, but passing shadows that intercept light, like a cloud passing in front of the sun, provide a moment of respite, a moment of relief. A moment of remembrance.
In a world where we are inundated with noise and light from so many places—I invite you to the practice of remembering: on the next sunny day, step outside, close your eyes and turn your face toward the sun. Feel the light on your face and give thanks, and if a cloud should pass by and create a shadow, give thanks. For all of it is holy.
How might you be invited to hold both light and shadow as part of your spiritual journey? How might your spiritual practice benefit from stepping into stillness and observing nature's rhythms, such as sunlight and clouds?
