9.29.23 - I Samuel 25:32-33
What holds you back from stepping out and righting a wrong you experience? What do you need to remember in order to gather the courage to act when the time is right?
David said to Abigail, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who sent you to meet me today! Blessed be your good sense, and blessed be you, who kept me today from bloodguilt and from avenging myself by my own hand!
Thankfully, there are people out there willing to fix the mess others make.
Sometimes, it's too little too late; but, at other times, quick thinking and quick reactions allow a wrong to be righted.
Abigail, rescues the people of her house by recognizing the seriousness of the situation and responding with grace and strength.
She will suffer no fools at this moment (Her husband, who committed this wrong, is named Nabal or fool). She summons the courage to fix what he broke.
Her motive? Not to save her husband, but to save her household. She knows the rites and rituals. She knows not a male will survive if David has his way.
Sometimes we just need to recognize what needs to be done, and do it. Not send it to a committee; not sit on our rearends and think about it.
Just gather the courage and do what is right to fix the wrong in front of us.
It doesn't have to be a big thing. Just righting one small wrong, correcting the mistake of one foolish behavior or word.
What holds you back from stepping out and righting a wrong you experience? What words do you need to hear to gather the courage to act when the time is right?
