9.11.23 - John 7:37b
Where is there thirst for something new in your life today, for yourself or someone else? How might you find a way to slake that thirst today?
“Let anyone who is thirsty come to me”
Water is life.
Water makes up about 50-60% of human bodies, and 71% of the Earth’s surface is composed of water.
It defines ecosystems and sustains life. In the arid climate of Palestine, and agrarian landscape, Jesus and his audience were keenly aware of the sustaining power of water, and the insecurity and anxiety in a time when drinking water was not a widely accessible commodity.
Jesus’s invitation is twofold: if you are thirsty, that is, if your life is in need of sustenance, belonging, and peace; and, let anyone, that is, there are no barriers or scarcities–all who thirst are welcome.
In Jesus’s metaphor, to quench your thirst is to have your deepest needs and insecurities cared for, yet throughout history, access to such nourishment is often limited to the most privileged.
Where in your life, or your community, is there great thirst? How might you invite someone who thirsts to drink with you?

Reframe is built around the idea that our habits can change, and in turn change us.
One of the hardest yet most effective ways to shape a new habit is to share it with someone.
