8.28.23 - 1 Samuel 15:24-25
What needs to be cleared out of your life to be able to experience God more clearly?
Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. Now therefore, I pray, pardon my sin, and return with me, so that I may worship the Lord.”
A passage like this can be quite challenging, but the lesson is quite important.
If we have something in our life that is not good for us, the best way to move forward is to cut it out completely.
If a cancer isn’t completely removed, it could continue to spread and harm us.
If we're to delete toxicity, sadness, and resentment from our lives, we must find ways to cut off or minimize the source of the pain.
Oftentimes we're leery of doing this because the root of the problem may be someone or something we care about or value.
This is the very human mistake that Saul made. He listened to the voice of the people over the command of God. It's easy to mistake one for the other.
Who are the people in your life that you mistake for God? What's one step you can take to quiet their voices today, if only to experience God's more clearly?
