8.21.23 - 1 Samuel 9:17
What changes if today you chose to believe in your worth rather than sought it from others?
When Samuel saw Saul, the Lord told him, ‘Here is the man of whom I spoke to you. He it is who shall rule over my people.’
What is it about symbols and imagery that is so captivating that it stirs our imaginations toward greater possibilities?
Whether it is in the form of a person or some talisman, many of us need something outside of ourselves to validate our worthiness.
With the people of Israel, they were tired of feeling victimized and felt that they needed a symbol of strength equal to or better than that of their enemies. And Saul was the epitome of “looking the part”.
One look and Samuel knew that Saul was who the Israelites were looking for in a King.
Emboldened by this symbolic leader, the people would come to see themselves as worthy of the promises God already made to them but that they were unable to receive.
Saul, by association, gave them permission to want more for themselves.
What areas of your life are looking for something or someone outside of you to validate your worth?
