8.18.23 - Mathew 20:15-16
What's one small way you could commit to today that recognizes the abundance and equity of God's kin*dom?
Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?’ So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
Part of the brilliance of this parable told by Jesus is to goad our need to be right and provide checks and balances on ultimate fairness.
Jesus acknowledges the constancy of need and the abundance of generosity available at all times.
We’re taught our whole lives about who is at the top, who is at the bottom, how to wait our turn and that the early bird gets the worm.
But not in God’s economy; not in the deeply interconnected and interdependent kin*dom of God on earth.
In God’s vineyard: all laborers are paid a full days wage, because there is more than enough to go around.
How do you measure who is first and who is last?
How would God challenge you to rethink this kind of measurement in your faith-based action this weekend?
