7.27.23 - 1 Corinthians 3:5
How might embracing diverse perspectives from different teachers enrich our understanding and lead to a more well-rounded worldview?
1 Corinthians 3:5
What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task.
In this particular passage, Paul is trying to keep the Corinthians from fighting over whose teachings were better. Paul is trying to convey the message that the teacher doesn’t matter as much as God.
And he is right.
God is God regardless of who is teaching about them. But Paul missed something important here: the teacher matters.Teachers are so important that they can change the entire meaning of the message.
Just look at what happened this year at several denominational meetings: different teachers argued about the role of women and the LGBTQIA community in church and society, or the response to the recent influx of refugees or the response to war in different parts of the world.
Depending on the teacher, the approach may be very different. And our role as students is to choose our teachers wisely.
