7.21.23 - Psalm 118:24-25
How might you allow yourself space to let Spirit open you up to feel the complexities of a situation?
Psalm 118:24-25
This is the day that the Lord has made
let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Save us, we beseech you, O Lord!
O Lord, we beseech you, give us success!
The tone of this Psalm can be a little confusing; it feels like it vacillates between war metaphors, praise for the Lord’s love, anxious requests for success, and “this is the day the Lord has made!”
I read it and I want to categorize it - “just choose what kind of Psalm you are so I know how to read you!”
Frequently in life, I want things to just be one thing - Is this good news or bad news? Is this a comedy or tragedy? Am I the victim or perpetrator?
I sometimes feel confused by how situations are never just all good, all celebration or all bad, all mourning. I worry about being annoying to people when I can’t tell a simple story - life is all of these things, all at once. I can’t categorize people or situations, I have to slow down and hold them in their complexity.
So, I guess I kinda love that this Psalm lets multiple things be true, all at once.
When are moments when you find yourself in black-and-white thinking? It’s often when we are at our most stressed.
How might you allow yourself space to let Spirit open you up to feel the complexities of a situation?
