7.12.23 - 1 Timothy 5:8
How can we contribute to the cultivation of a mindset of compassion and empathy to better comprehend the needs of others, especially the most vulnerable among us?
1 Timothy 5:8
Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
What is the role of family, friends, or community if in one’s most vulnerable state, there is no one there to support them?
In our present society, there are few systems in place that revere elders or care for the widows and other vulnerable among us. Even in our own families there is not much grace for the vulnerable. Rather, we see the vulnerable as failures or charity cases that should feel shame for their need.
This is not the way of the Creator from whom we all have received life. By caring for the vulnerable among us and revering them like family, we actually build a society primed for flourishing and where certain vulnerabilities are lessened.
How can we contribute to the cultivation of a mindset of compassion and empathy to better comprehend the needs of others, especially the most vulnerable among us?
