6.21.23 - Matthew 11: 16-19
We are at our best when we're open to the world around us. What is one thing you might do today to be open to experiencing God's message for you today?
“But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to one another, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn.’ “For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon’; the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”
Oftentimes, in looking for a sign of guidance, we might unintentionally create unrealistic expectations, leading us to believe that our fantasies are God’s reality.
A sign can come in any shape or form. And God tends to choose to communicate through the least expected channels.
But if we limit who or what God can use to our own expectations, we may miss out on a crucial piece of guidance.
Imagine looking for confirmation that traveling across the world is the right decision. When a “Just Do It” sign in the front window of a Nike store appears, we take it as proof that God wants us to take the trip.
But this image is not necessarily the 'sign' God placed in your path.
Being open to guidance most often begins with dropping expectations. Only then can we see what’s usually right in front of our faces.
How might you let go of expectations today to let God speak meaningfully to your life?
