Awe came upon everyone because many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.
We did an exercise in my faith community this past Advent in which we were each given a word to ponder during the next year. I have mine posted on the fridge: WONDER.
I was excited to receive “wonder”. It seemed like a word that would expand me, and I am always looking for that feeling of expansion. I want a ride!
I bring wonder into my spiritual practice each day that I see the posted word as a prompt. I have become acutely aware that in order to experience wonder, I have to reckon with a space I find myself naturally idling into - contempt.
In meditating on this word, I open myself to looking for wonder in this world. I see others living with intention and transmuting spaces of hatred with spirit and hope. This emboldens me to do the same in the spaces I inhabit.
I pray that wonder becomes the more natural idle state of my being.
What do you need to do in order to cultivate some curiosity and wonder today?
