6.1.23 - John 14:16-17a
A spirit of truth advocates for others, the voiceless, the afraid, the marginalized. How might you use your voice today to invite others to speak?
And I will ask God, and they will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth
There are many beautiful names and images that allude to the Holy Spirit: presence, breath, wind, fire, dove, ghost.
To disciples who are uncertain and fearful about Jesus’s future and their own, Jesus promises the presence of the Spirit who is an Advocate for them.
Amidst adverse and even hostile circumstances, when Jesus is no longer physically with them and the path forward is unclear, the Spirit will advocate for their purpose and wellbeing as those who continue to proclaim the Way of Jesus.
The Spirit of truth is always advocating for life abundant and the goodness of God’s creation against forces that cause suffering and indignity.
Who do you know that needs an advocate? What do you need to do to be available for the Spirit to use you as an advocate for another's dignity and wellbeing today?

Thank you, Evan, for your words today! As I sought to answer your question about how I might be an advocate for the voiceless or afraid, I thought of the abandoned and abused and relinquished animals at the no-kill shelter where I volunteer each week. And that in caring for them, I can help be an advocate for their precious lives and their vital dignity. And that extends into all of Creation - the voiceless ones like air, water, endangered species, those facing environmental racism - that is where I seek to advocate, bring justice, and make peace. And reminders such as yours are essential. Thank you.
