5.9.23 - 1 Peter 1: 5-6
Jesus didn’t overpower people, and yet he had power. What does Christ-like power look like to you?
[You] who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, even if now for a little while you have had to suffer various trials, …
We love a good hero story, the trials that seem hopeless and then there is a last-minute salvation!
Yaaaay!
Whoooo!
Good IS more powerful than evil!
But there is something that feels off about how we often link hero stories to Christianity because Jesus was never really about power, or not in the way that we ever expect it.
And many people’s life experiences never know a victory or a relief. What is the “protection” and “power of God” and “salvation” we are promised here?
If not a hero, showing up with a sword to vanquish our enemies, then what?
I feel the pressure to write ReFrames with answers prepared.
This is the part where I’m supposed to pull a bunny out of the hat and be like “Here it is! The little tidbit for your day that will change everything!”
But today, I ask you, where do you see God’s protection? Where do you see God’s salvation?
