5.29.23 - Acts 2:3-4
Speaking in tongues. Experiencing what another experiences. They're similar. What might you do today to experience what another experiences?
Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
The Pentecost story tells of the wondrous and ecstatic arrival of God’s Spirit upon the people of God, a story of profound inspiration for many and confusion for many others.
The Spirit’s presence was manifest with a peculiar tangible action–”tongues,” the spontaneous ability to speak in and understand other languages.
Tongues fell upon all in this multiethnic gathering, with no calculation of merit or worthiness, only universal empowerment.
The Spirit is the mysterious yet ever-abiding presence of God that empowers us to perceive and participate in the life of the Divine, extending to many gifts and actions beyond speaking in tongues.
In what parts of yourself can you receive the empowerment of the Spirit to join in the life and love of God?
What might "speaking in tongues" look like for you today?
