5.23.23 - Acts 3:25
What's one way you can appreciate your life today so that you might free yourself to appreciate someone else in your world?
You are the descendants of the prophets and of the covenant that God gave to your ancestors, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your descendants all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’
One of my pet peeves is scrolling through social media and finding a post with #Blessed.
My judgment is unleashed and I remain angry for a few hours. Mostly because these posts often entail a frozen beverage, a beach scene, or a new car.
There is nothing wrong with these things, but they do imply that a blessing is a reward and that blessings are almost always financial in nature.
This passage shows us that a blessing can also be a hardship like the ones lived by our ancestors. Most prophets had very difficult lives, and yet this passage calls them blessed.
But more importantly, this text tells us why we are blessed: so we can bless others.
Not because we deserve it, or because we are cool, but because a blessing is an invitation to bless others, to serve others, to love others.
