5.18.23 - Matthew 27:46
We were built for community. How will your life reflect that need to connect to others today?
At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?
In this moment, I love the humanity of Jesus. I love that he knows what it means to feel truly alone. To feel abandoned.
Those moments are so hard. We’re not meant to be alone. We’re meant for community.
It’s so hard today to find that space. That place where, beyond a shadow of doubt, we belong.
Jesus knowing what it feels like to experience loneliness which gives me hope for my own lonely times.
At times, my loneliness feels like a void that could swallow me whole. Other times it feels like I'm a tiny voice what no one can hear.
Those moments when I feel abandoned by everyone, even God, are a reminder that my loneliness is one way.
That even in those moments I cry out, God is still there. God is in the void and hears my tiny voice. That something bigger than me or you, bigger than my loneliest moments, awaits with an open heart.
Have you ever felt abandoned by God? Have you ever looked around in the void and asked, my God, my God, why have you abandoned me?
Take moment to breathe deeply and know that we are held. Today, how might you step across artificial boundaries and be the person who hear someone else's small voice?
