5.11.23 - Acts 17:11
What are some ideas that you’ve dismissed out-of-hand lately? What in there might be worth re-examining?
[The people of Beroea] were more receptive than those in Thessalonica, for they welcomed the message very eagerly and examined the scriptures every day to see whether these things were so.
I am reminded by this passage how much faith is not about having dogged and rigid beliefs.
In the scriptures, the folks with dogged beliefs were usually the people who didn’t get it.
The followers of Jesus were the people who were willing to try on new ways of being and see whether those new ways are aligned with what they knew of God.
It’s often the people on the margins who can point us in the God direction because they’ve tried the acceptable ways of being and know that those are a lie.
What if theology isn’t about perfection? What if your theology doesn’t have to be right?
The answers to those questions might be scary for some.
What do you know in your heart and gut and experience about God? What feels like the underlying Truth of Jesus?
Those answers might be even scarier.
What would happen if you allowed yourself the space to truly look at that idea and wonder about its truth?

Reframe means taking a fresh look at an old story.
It’s a way of experiencing your world differently, even though the landscape may seem similar.
Thank you, Theo, for your comments this morning in ReFrame! Especially the one about does your theology have to be "right." Amen! This was both challenging and liberating. Thank you!
