4.26.23 - Hebrews 5:7a
It's easy for prayer to become formulaic or trite. The prayers of our bodies and souls often lack words, but they say much in emotion and action.
During the time Jesus lived on earth, He prayed and asked God with loud cries and tears.
We do not have to live on this earth long to know what heartbreak feels like. I take great comfort in knowing that Jesus knows this.
Jesus’ prayers remind me that God is not fragile, but rather a God who can hold space for me.
That stability is important because later in this chapter we are reminded that we are like children. Children sitting in the back seat on a road trip, asking question after question of God.
Are we there yet?
Why is this happening?
Where are you taking me?
What are your prayers that are accompanied by loud cries and tears?
Maybe it's a prayer of joy. Perhaps it's one of fear or rage. It's good to know that whatever we bring with us, God remains in the space, perhaps with tears and cries of Their own.
What's the prayer that you need to say today to clear space in your heart, mind, or body?
