4.20.23 - 1 John 5:2-4
Who needs to hear from you that they inspire you? How can you tell them today?
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, for whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith.
For context, this reading is immediately preceded by the definition of God's commandment which is to love our siblings/niblings/accomplices.
With that lens, this passage insists that our "victory over the world" is our love for each other. The world would categorize and separate us. But our faith that the Creator's work is good resists segregation because loving the Creator is intertwined with loving the creation.
Nobody is lazy, nobody wants to do a bad job;
Nobody is a mistake or an abomination;
Nobody wants to be abused and forgotten;
They might be hurt because the world is cruel, but the work is good.
Believing we're made intentionally, in an image, and with the deepest, most infinite well of love is what inspires my awe of both the Creator and humanity.
How might you find awe and inspiration in one of your relationships today?

It’s a way of experiencing your world differently, even though the landscape may seem similar.
