4.11.23 - Matthew 28:7-8
Not every change begins with flipping tables. What’s one way you can flip the script today and embody the change you want to see in the world?
“Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.’ This is my message for you.” So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to tell his disciples.
In the biblical tradition, the resurrection is an event of cosmic cataclysm–the finality of death being loosed, the in-breaking of a new age in this present age.
But the cosmic is reflected in flesh and blood. Flowing from this mind-bending event is an immediate and cataclysmic reversal of conventional gender roles as it’s the faithful women, Mary and Mary Magdalene, who are enlisted as initial proclaimers of this important news.
Women would go on to be leaders in many of the earliest Christian communities, challenging the patriarchal norms of society–and religion.
Christ upends hierarchy and domination just as his raised body upends death.
How can you join in upending life-denying conventions in your life, work, and communities?
What’s one way you can flip the script today and embody the change you want to see in the world?
