“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”
I have always been inquisitive, overflowing with curiosity.
I asked questions of people and books and eventually the internet (thank you, Ask Jeeves!). And it is from that place that I connect with this verse.
One of the ways “fear” can be understood as “a sense of awe.” In other words, the Psalmist is suggesting that if we desire to come to a deep sense of knowing, we must begin from a place of Divine wonder and curiosity.
In turn, I believe, our knowing shapes our being and our doing.
How much different might the world be if we were anchored by the belief that there is always more to discover about the Divine and all of creation?
How might this curious orientation shift our relationships with ourselves and one another, especially those whose embodied experience differs from ours?
